FAQs

Limited company questions, answered.

How much does a limited company accountant cost?
Our ongoing limited company packages start at £100 + VAT a month (£900 + VAT a year if paid upfront) for companies with turnover up to £90,000, and include statutory accounts, the confirmation statement and the CT600 Company Tax Return. One-off fees are fixed: company incorporation £200 + VAT, VAT registration £300 + VAT and payroll (PAYE) registration £50 + VAT.
Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on your profits, risk and plans. A limited company gives limited liability and can be more tax-efficient at higher profits, but it has more reporting duties: Companies House accounts, a confirmation statement, a CT600 and, usually, payroll. We compare both routes for your own figures in a first consultation (£100 + VAT) before you decide.
How should I pay myself as a company director?
Most directors take a small salary through PAYE plus dividends from post-tax profits, and some add employer pension contributions. The best split changes each tax year with National Insurance thresholds, the Employment Allowance rules and dividend tax rates, so we recalculate it for you every year rather than using a rule of thumb.
When does my company need to register for VAT?
You must register when your VAT-taxable turnover in any rolling 12-month period goes over £90,000, or when you expect it to go over £90,000 in the next 30 days alone. Registration is due within 30 days of the end of the month in which you passed the threshold. Voluntary registration can also make sense if your customers are VAT-registered businesses.
Can you get a certificate of residence from HMRC for my company?
Yes. If your UK company receives income from a country that has a double taxation agreement with the UK, HMRC can issue a certificate of residence so you can claim treaty relief abroad. As your authorised agent we apply online, provide the period, income type and treaty details HMRC asks for, and send you the certificate. We also apply for individuals and sole traders.
Can you take over from my current accountant?
Yes. We write to your previous accountant for professional clearance, collect the records and filings we need and register as your agent with HMRC and Companies House. There is usually no gap in service and you do not need to wait for your year end to switch.
