Tax, HMRC & compliance
What information will you need from me?
Accurate and complete financial records — income, expense receipts, bank statements and any other documents relevant to the service. We give you a personalised checklist during your first consultation.
Do I need to use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
Sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 must use it from 6 April 2026, over £30,000 from April 2027 and over £20,000 from April 2028. We set you up with compatible software and can submit your quarterly updates. Self-employed services →
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
Online returns and payment are due by 31 January after the end of the tax year (31 January 2027 for the 2025 to 2026 tax year); paper returns by 31 October. A second payment on account is usually due on 31 July. A late return attracts an initial £100 penalty.
How do I get a CIS tax refund?
Sole-trader subcontractors claim CIS deductions back through their Self Assessment tax return: we report your gross pay and the 20% (or 30%) deducted by contractors, HMRC sets it against your tax and National Insurance and repays the difference. Limited companies offset CIS deductions through their PAYE scheme using the Employer Payment Summary. Keep your CIS payment and deduction statements. CIS tax refunds →
Can you get an HMRC certificate of residence for me?
Yes. A certificate of residence confirms to a foreign tax authority that you, or your company, are UK tax resident so you can claim relief under a double taxation agreement. As your agent we apply to HMRC online with the period, income type and treaty details required and send you the certificate. Contact us for a quote. Contact us →
What happens if I have a problem with HMRC?
If HMRC opens an enquiry, compliance check or investigation, we support and represent you, deal with HMRC on your behalf and work to resolve the matter.
Can you help with Universal Credit applications?
Yes. We help you apply accurately, explain how your earnings and savings affect your claim and advise on other support you may be entitled to, including PIP. Universal Credit services →
